WtTS Release + Notes
Hello and happy release to my little story: What the Trees Stole! This was a piece that came out of nowhere. I had a dream and when I woke up my brain told me I had to write it down. And so I did. The whole thing was written in two days, and my wrists hated me for it for about two weeks. While I don't remember much of the original dream, I remember woods and I remember heavy feeling two kids carried. Maybe because it was a dream, and maybe because my dreams are always fully realized stories, that the first draft of this came out surprisingly clean. It was literally the cleanest first draft that I've ever written. There were only a handful of edits made. After that, I didn't think I'd do anything with it. The story is simple and straight forward, and I thought I'd just move on to new projects.
But this story never left me. Maybe it was because in my rush to write it, I simply named the two main characters after my plushies, and so whenever I look at my bed I'm reminded of them. Maybe it's because I've never felt such a strong urge to write a story before. Or maybe because the idea stuck with me, but I kept wanting to go back and do something with it. Which leads us to here and this release!
This is a story that takes place in a universe where there are three sins and three virtues. Sins are represented by white birds and virtues by black birds. The birds are as follows:
Hatred: Dove
Destruction: Swan
Calamity: Crane
Love: Raven
Creation: Crow
Calm: Blackbird
While these aren't super important, they are referenced in this story, so I thought I'd mention it.
Overall, I hope you enjoy this little story! I certainly enjoyed my time writing and rereading it!
