Devlog #3: A Very Belated Update


Wow, hey. It's been a while! I realized I've been talking about it elsewhere (tumblr/twitter/lemmasoft), but I haven't talked about it here. And that is that I've been making steady progress on Spring Boy again! So here's a comprehensive update for everyone over on itch!

 I've spent the year slowly picking away at the updated demo, but my laptop died late last year and while I backed up some of my files, others were lost and it was pretty demotivating. Like, A Lot more demotivating than I thought it would be. It's why it's taken me so long to get back into the swing of things.

And since I lost some files, I thought I might as well just completely redo this project from the ground up. There was a lot of things I didn't like about the mini demo I released, and I was struggling with writing the story with how it was going. I've been rewriting the script, overhauling the art, and trying to design the GUI in a way I like. I can't give a concrete release window for the updated demo but it shouldn't be too long from now hopefully! I'll leave the old demo up for now, although I might take it down in the near future. We'll see what ends up happening.

And with that, that's everything I have to update for now! I'm really happy with how the new art has been turning out! I also think all of the short projects I've done between the release of the original demo and this current version has made me improve in a variety of ways in game writing and design, which I feel will make this game a lot stronger!

The updated demo will have 3 CGs (one for the LI Vasant, and 1 for each of the friend characters 'Mickie' and 'Sparrow'), and be around 10k words, which is about thirty minutes of play! After that, I'm hoping to have the rest of the game out by Spring 2025 at the latest. I know this game has kind of been in development hell, but I assure you it's coming out one way or the other! Especially now that I'm back in the swing of things.

I was thinking the full game would be around 25k-30k but I think we're looking more at like...45k which is just shy of the length of my first otome Memory Ghosts. I was really hoping to make a shorter game, hence why this only has one LI, but it is what it is. I've had a lot of time to think on this project, and so it makes sense it's grown in the process.

I'm excited to show off the new demo! Hopefully I get the time to finish all the art and release it soon!
